BERKELEY CA, MARCH 14, 2006
Berkeley Repertory Theatre and Rita Moreno are pleased to announce night/OUT, an event for the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community on Thursday, April 13. The evening starts at 8:00 PM with a breathtaking performance by this legendary actress in The Glass Menagerie, and the festivities continue late into the night.

The post-play party features gourmet hors d’oeuvres from Venus Restaurant; complimentary wine, beer and other beverages; and music mixed by a cutting-edge Bay Area DJ. Admission to the party is free with a $45 ticket to that evening’s performance, and discounted seats are available for students, seniors and those under 30 years of age, as well as for groups of 10 or more.

“I look forward to sharing this fabulous party with theatre-lovers in the LGBT community who support the exquisite work produced at Berkeley Rep,” Moreno remarks. “I always enjoy it when I have a chance to meet the audience after a performance, and to thank them for taking a journey through the play with me. Besides, it’s only a couple of nights after the show opens…Trust me, I’ll need a drink too!”

Following her acclaimed performance as Maria Callas in Master Class, Rita Moreno returns to Berkeley Rep in another incredible role: Amanda in The Glass Menagerie. Expect an unforgettable performance from the woman who won the Oscar, the Tony, the Grammy and two Emmys. Tennessee Williams’ autobiographical masterpiece about Amanda and her fractured family is brought to the stage by the Theatre’s associate artistic director, Les Waters, who gave audiences a lush and lyrical look at Williams’ Suddenly Last Summer in 2003. In this tale of endurance and forgiveness, a young man is torn between obligation to his family and the need to lead a life of his own. Williams called this his “memory play,” and its expressionistic beauty illuminates the subjective nature of memory…For Amanda, it serves as a refuge; for her son, it’s a prison he will never escape. Don’t miss Rita Moreno in The Glass Menagerie on Berkeley Rep’s intimate Thrust Stage.

The Glass Menagerie begins previews on April 6 and runs through May 31. For tickets to night/OUT or another performance, visit the box office at 2025 Addison Street in Berkeley, click berkeleyrep.org or call 510.647.2949 or 1.888.4BRTTix (toll-free).
