Fink, Associate General Manager and Director MaryBeth Cavanaugh, Associate Director Dave Maier, Outreach Coordinator Joanne Seelig, Education Associate Jessica Modrall, School Administrator Sylvia Hathaway, Education Intern TONY TACCONE is in his tenth year as artistic director of Berkeley Rep, where he has staged more than 35 shows, including the world premieres of Continental Divide, The Convicts Return, Culture Clash in AmeriCCa, The First 100 Years, Geni(us), Ravenshead and Virgin Molly. He commissioned Tony Kushners renowned Angels in America, co-directed its world premiere at the Mark Taper Forum and has collaborated with Kushner on six projects. Their latest piece featured designs by beloved childrens author, Maurice Sendak: Brundibar debuted at Berkeley Rep and then traveled to Yale Rep and the New Victory Theatre in New York City. Taccone recently made his Broadway debut with Sarah Jones Bridge & Tunnel, which was universally lauded by the critics. He also staged the shows record-breaking off-Broadway run, workshopped it for Broadway at Berkeley Rep and directed Jones previous hit, Surface Transit. In 2004, his production of David Edgars Continental Divide transferred to the Barbican in London after playing the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Berkeley Rep and Englands Birmingham Rep. Taccone frequently works in Ashland, where he has also directed Coriolanus, Othello, Pentecost and the American premiere of Seamus Heaneys The Cure at Troy. His other regional credits include noted theatres such as Actors Theatre of Louisville, Arizona Rep, La Jolla Playhouse, San Jose Rep, Seattle Rep and San Franciscos Eureka Theatre, where he served six years as artistic director before coming to Berkeley Rep. Taccone has served on the faculty of U.C. Berkeley, sat on the board of Theatre Communications Group and acted as a regional representative for the Society of Stage Directors and Choreographers. SUSAN MEDAK has served as Berkeley Reps managing director, responsible for administration and operations of the Theatre, since 1990. In addition to her work at Berkeley Rep, Ms. Medak is the president of the League of Resident Theatres (LORT), and she recently completed two terms on the board of Theatre Communications Group (TCG), where she served for three years as the treasurer of the board. Ms. Medak has served on the National Endowment for the Arts Theatre Program panel, as well as on Overview, Prescreening and Creation and Presentation panels. She has chaired panels for the Theatre, Preservation and Heritage and Education and Access programs, also serving as an on-site reporter. She chaired two panels for the Massachusetts Arts Council. Closer to home, Ms. Medak has served as vice president of the Downtown Berkeley Association. She serves on the Downtown Business Improvement District and is the founding chair of the Berkeley Arts in Education Steering Committee for Berkeley Unified School District and the Berkeley Cultural Trust. She is a proud member of the Mont Blanc Ladies Literary Guild and Trekking Society. She lives in Berkeley with her husband and son. LES WATERS won an OBIE Award for his production of Charles Mees Big Love. He directed its world premiere at the Humana Festival and subsequent runs at Berkeley Rep, the Brooklyn Academy of Music, Goodman Theatre and Long Wharf Theater. He became associate artistic director of Berkeley Rep in 2003, where he has also staged Eurydice, Fêtes de la Nuit, Finn in the Underworld, The Glass Menagerie, The Mystery of Irma Vep, Suddenly Last Summer and Yellowman. Waters work has been seen at theatres across the United Kingdom and the United States. In addition to Big Love, his New York credits include the Connelly Theatre, Manhattan Theatre Club, The Public Theater/New York Shakespeare Festival and Signature Theatre Company. Elsewhere in America, he has directed for American Conservatory Theater, Goodman Theatre, Guthrie Theatre, La Jolla Playhouse and Steppenwolf Theatre Company. In his native England, Waters has staged work with the Bristol Old Vic, Hampstead Theatre Club, Joint Stock Theatre Group, National Theatre, Royal Court Theatre and Traverse Theatre Club. He has a long history of working collaboratively with prominent playwrights like Caryl Churchill and Charles Mee, and champions important new voices, such as Jordan Harrison, Sarah Ruhl and Anne Washburn. Waters is an associate artist of The Civilians, a New York-based theatre group, and he headed the M.F.A. directing program at U.C. San Diego from 1995 to 2003. His many honors include a Dramalogue Award, an Edinburgh Fringe First Award, a KPBS Patte and several awards from the Bay Area Critics Circle, Connecticut Critics Circle and Tokyo Theatre Critics.
