this site regularly for updates. TEEN COUNCIL MEETINGS TARGET® TEEN NIGHT PLAY READING GROUP PERFORMANCE CAFÉ WRITE A PLAY, RIGHT AWAY! TEEN COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES TEEN COUNCIL MEETINGS Teen council meetings are held the first Tuesday of every month at 5PM at the Berkeley Rep School of Theatre, 2071 Addison Street in downtown Berkeley. Meeting dates for 2006/07 are: September 5, October 10, November 7, December 5, January 2, February 6, March 6, April 3, May 1 and June 5. Click here to read the minutes from our last meeting. BACK TO TOP TARGET® TEEN NIGHT: EAT, TALK AND SEE GREAT PLAYS WITH THE TEEN COUNCIL A special opportunity for teens from around the Bay Area to attend the Friday Preview of each play at Berkeley Rep, have dinner and participate in a behind-the-scenes workshop prior to the performance for an extremely discounted price. Past Target® Teen Nights have included discussions with Berkeley Rep Artistic Director Tony Taccone; The Glass Menagerie Director and Associate Artistic Director Les Waters; 9 Parts of Desire Director Joanna Settle; The Miser Director Dominique Serrand; Brundibar Assistant Director Eddie Kurtz; Our Town Sound Designer Mark Bennett; Zorro in Hell Fight Director Dave Maier; and Berkeley Rep Casting Director Amy Potozkin. NEXT TARGET® TEEN NIGHT Friday, September 8, 2006: Mother Courage, written by Bertolt Brecht, translated by David Hare and directed by Lisa Peterson. Written as the Nazi war machine rolled thorough Poland, Brechts anti-war masterpiece is one of the most inspired plays of the 20th century, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. In David Hares vigorous translation, Brechts text percolates with unexpected humor. Accompanied by original music from acclaimed composer Gina Leishman, Brechts stirring songs resonate with vitality. As staged by Obie Award-winning director Lisa Peterson, Mother Courages tale of struggle and survival becomes a powerful, multi-sensory experience that engages our minds and our hearts. Show up at 6:30PM at the Berkeley Rep School of Theatre for dinner with fellow teens and a discussion with a theatre professional prior to attending the play. Tickets are $5.00 for Teen Council members and $20.00 for non-members. For more information about Target® Teen Night, or to reserve your ticket, call Jessica Modrall at 510.647.2978 or e-mail jmodrall@berkeleyrep.org. BACK TO TOP PLAY READING GROUP The Teen Council is pleased to announce the third season of Play Reading Group. This group is focused on exploring teen-centered plays, aiding young actors in finding fresh audition material and introducing readers to theatre vocabulary, forms and topics not previously encountered. In the past we have read The Trestle at Pope Lick Creek by Naomi Wallace, The Clean House by Sarah Ruhl, The Skriker by Caryl Churchill and Betrayal by Harold Pinter. The first Play Reading Group meeting of 2006/07 is Wednesday, September 13, 2006 at 4:30PM at the Berkeley Rep School of Theatre. If you are interested and would like to receive a copy of the play for our next meeting, please contact jmodrall@berkeleyrep.org or call 510.647.2978. Programming subject to change. BACK TO TOP PERFORMANCE CAFÉ Do you like acting? Do you want to show off your talent? The Performance Café is an opportunity for young actors to showcase scenes or monologues that they have prepared on their own or in Berkeley Rep School of Theatre classes and serves as a fundraiser for Teen Council. There is good food to eat and young talent to witness! Teen actors come in the week of the performance to work with a School of Theatre teacher and shape their pieces. In January, Deb Eubanks dedicated her time to the Performance Café. Teens performed scenes and monologues from The Seagull, The Laramie Project and The Importance of Being Earnest, among others. If you are interested in performing in or helping make and serve food in our next café, please e-mail teencouncil@berkeleyrep.org. BACK TO TOP WRITE A PLAY, RIGHT AWAY! Write, direct, stage and perform plays in less than a week! Write a Play, Right Away! is Teen Councils first annual play creation project where an ensemble of creative, devoted high school students will write, direct, stage and perform plays in less than a week. It will be a great way to kick off the year! At the beginning of the week, everyone will write a 20-page play given certain requirements. Once plays are selected for performance, members of the ensemble will be chosen at random to direct or act in one of the plays. Everyone in the ensemble will write a play and participate in the rehearsal and performance processes. Prepare yourself for a crazy and intense experience! Write a Play, Right Away! will be September 1116, 2006 with the final performance Saturday, September 16 at 8PM. E-mail teencouncil@berkeleyrep.org if you want to be part of this wild event!
