TARGET®
ONE ACTS FESTIVAL The Target® Teen One Acts are a celebration of teen theatre. Each fall, the Berkeley Rep Teen Council holds a playwriting contest, encouraging young playwrights from throughout the Bay Area to develop their ideas about issues that inspire them. In January, two plays are chosen from among the litany of submissions. During the winter, Teen Council hosts a Directing Workshop for teens who are interested in directing for the Festival. They spend a day with Berkeley Rep staff including Artistic Director Tony Taccone, Associate Artistic Director Les Waters and Dramaturg/Literary Manager Madeleine Oldham learning the process of analyzing and directing a play. After this workshop, two directors are selected to direct the winning plays. The two plays are then produced, acted in, directed, stage managed and designed by high school students. Berkeley Rep professionals mentor Teen Council members and provide an opportunity for Bay Area youth to work with the best in the business to perfect their craft. The Target® One Acts Festival allows teenagers to create something of their own in the most rewarding, hands-on way. Interested in writing a play for the Target® One Acts Festival? Check back soon for more information on how to enter your own original play in the 2007 Target® One Acts Festival playwriting contest, e-mail teencouncil@berkeleyrep.org or call us at 510.647.2978. 2006 FESTIVAL A SUCCESS! The fourth annual Target® One Acts Festival went beautifully. Teen Council performed to raving audiences and was featured in the San Francisco Chronicle and the Contra Costa Times. Directors shaped their visions, stage managers called cues, actors performed brand new material and playwrights saw their ideas come to life. Everyone involved was thrilled to see the School of Theatre classroom turn into a functioning theatre with professional light and sound equipment. Teen Council would like to thank everyone from Berkeley Repertory Theatre and the Berkeley Rep School of Theatre who helped us, as well as everyone who came to see the shows. The 2006 Festival was surely a success and we hope next year is equally as inspiring! TWO PLAYS FEATURED IN 2006 FESTIVAL JOEY BUTTAFUOCO EATS A PASTRAMI SANDWICH by Lauren D.
