All activities are held next door to the Theatre in the Nevo Education Center at 2071 Addison Street in downtown Berkeley. We are delighted to welcome Dave to our full-time staff and to have new teachers such as Michael working with us, declared Rachel Fink, the schools director. Now in our fifth year, our School of Theatre offers an interactive environment where students immerse themselves in all aspects of the craft and artistry of theatre, learning the commitment and technique necessary for artistic excellence. For many, learning stage combat is an essential part of this training. This fall, in addition to the beginning acting class for adults, Mr. Maier will teach a workshop entitled Stage Combat: Rapier and Dagger. This class on theatrical swordplay, for those 16 and older, will emphasize safely creating the illusion of violence on stage. An accomplished actor, director and fight choreographer, Mr. Maier is the new outreach coordinator at the School of Theatre. A graduate of New York Universitys theatre school, he was certified as an Actor Combatant by the Society of American Fight Directors (SAFD), has trained with Dueling Arts International and has worked with noted companies such as Intiman Theatre, Seattle Repertory Theatre and the Shotgun Players. Younger students can take the Stage Combat class with Mr. Storm, which is intended for youth in grades 68. Also a certified Actor Combatant with SAFD, Mr. Storm has taught and performed locally for 15 years. The fall session offers something for students of all ages and all levels, from beginners to professionals.
