BERKELEY CA, AUGUST 10, 2005
Parents looking for affordable family activities received good news today: Berkeley Repertory Theatre announced another season of its Target® Family Series. One Sunday every month, local families can enjoy a free, interactive theatre workshop from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM. This year’s dates are September 18, October 2, November 6, December 4, January 8, February 5, March 5, April 2, May 7 and June 4. This program is only possible due to the Target® Corporation’s ongoing and generous support of the Berkeley Rep School of Theatre.

The Target® Family Series at Berkeley Rep gives families an opportunity to play together. Toddlers, teens, parents and grandparents all can participate in these free workshops. There’s a new topic every month: such as clowning, circus skills or storytelling. The September program will focus on improv. The October program will create scenes about family and community, to coincide with Berkeley Rep’s production of Our Town. Themes for the other workshops have yet to be announced. There is no cost to attend; Berkeley Rep suggests instead that each family bring a book as a donation for the library at the nearby John Muir Elementary School.

“Thanks to Target, Berkeley Rep can bring excellent entertainment to local families,” remarked Susan Medak, managing director of Berkeley Rep. “For nearly 20 years, Target’s generosity has been a boon to local families. The Family Series provides enjoyable activities that everyone can engage in—and it’s free!”

Target Corporation has been an ongoing supporter of Berkeley Rep’s educational programs since 1986. “We are proud to support organizations like Berkeley Rep that make our communities a better place to live and work,” said Bernard Boudreaux, senior manager of community relations for Target Corporation.

The Berkeley Rep School of Theatre, housed in the Nevo Education Center, offers a wide array of programming for individuals of all ages. In addition to classes for youth and adults, it offers the Hilde L. Mosse Programs for Education which include Target® Story Builders, a drama workshop for elementary-school classrooms; the Student Matinee Series for middle- and high-school students; the Playmaking Project for high-school students and incarcerated youth; in-school residencies; teacher training; and a variety of outreach activities that encourage lifelong learning.
