Last year, Bay Area teens interested in theatre participated in Teen Council’s Third Annual Teen Theatre Conference. The conference was designed to create an open forum for students from different high-school drama programs to exchange ideas, network and strengthen the teen theatre community. The participants were able to focus in one of five areas of concentration, including directing, acting, design, journalism in the arts and producing.
This past year’s conference was divided into two parts: the first half of the day was spent studying with theatre professionals in their chosen area of concentration, while the second half allowed participants to work in small teams and produce a short piece of theatre.
More information about this year’s conference will be coming soon!
Last year, Teen Council hosted the first play creation project, Write a Play, Right Away! in which an ensemble of creative, devoted high school students wrote, directed and performed plays in less than a week. It was a great way to kick off the year! At the beginning of the week, each participant wrote a 9-page play given certain requirements. Once plays were selected for performance, members of the ensemble were chosen at random to direct or act in one of the plays. Everyone in the ensemble wrote a play and participated in the rehearsal and performance processes. It was a great experience for everyone involved!
Stay tuned for our next project!
