Calling all Drama Queens and Kings! Come and play in a big way and explore the melodrama in action-packed classes. Using the disciplines of acting, mime, masks, movement, clowning, singing, dance and improvisation, you will become a powerful, energetic and spontaneous performer. Try your hand at High Comedy and High Drama as we perform “The Amargosa Story…a Melodrama” by Nancy Gold. The story of the Old West will never be the same. Share this tall tale with friends and family at the final class. It is knee slappin’ fun for everyone.
Nancy Gold is the author of Finding Your Funny Bone! The Actor’s Guide to Physical Comedy and Characters. She has taught at the Berkeley Rep School of Theatre, American Conservatory Theatre Young Conservatory, Marin Theatre Company, California Shakespeare Theatre, UCLA and throughout California, Illinois and Maryland in public and private schools. Her most recent directing credits include A Servant of Two Masters, Madeline and the Gypsies and Caucasian Chalk Circle. She studied with Jacques LeCoq in Paris and Ctibor Turba. She holds a BFA from the University of Illinois. Nancy performs comedy characters and vaudeville with her partner, Lol Levy.

Inspired by Harry Potter’s magical world, we will create an original tale of mayhem, might and magic. Share your special skills and invent unique songs, dances and characters in the world of Hogwarts. The show belongs to you, as director, actor and playwright. Make your costumes, sets and props for the premiere performance to share with family and friends during the last class—and be sure to stay for the after-party!
Please see teacher bio above.

Berkeley Rep School of Theatre is pleased to be able to offer financial aid for students enrolling in our youth and teen classes. Scholarships will be granted to students attending classes who demonstrate a strong financial need. Financial aid will be disbursed on a sliding scale—eligible families generally receive scholarships covering between 30%–100% of tuition.
Families applying for financial aid must submit a minimum $25 deposit per student at the time of registration. This amount secures the student’s place in the program while their financial aid application is under consideration. This deposit is refundable if the registration is cancelled by the end of the first week of class.
Download our application form or call the Berkeley Rep School of Theatre at 510 647–2972.
