This class will explore the world of long form improv with a threefold approach, focusing on narrative improvisation, dialects and language, and movement. Students will learn storytelling techniques as well as advanced improvisation skills, so that each individual contributes to a strong ensemble.
We will also delve into the world of Regency era romance, studying Standard and Elevated British dialects, as well as the movement, manners, and other storytelling tropes of period romance. Dialects and physicality will be approached in a multi-sensorial way with immersion (listening to primary sources of the dialect), and a focus on the physical and phonetic sound changes.
The class will culminate in a full-length improvised play based on the style of period romance for an invited audience.
