Acting Comedy is a Serious Business

Explore the art of comedy from every direction — physical, vocal, and improvisational. Student will delve into various forms of comedy including basic clowning, traditional mask characters from Commedia del Arte, vaudeville, and sketch comedy. Students will work on rhyming, timing, scene dynamics, spontaneity, and being present. Friends and family will be invited for a final sharing!

Instructor: Nancy Gold is a multifaceted performing artist, teacher, director, playwright, and author of Finding Your Funny Bone! The Actor’s Guide to Physical Comedy and Characters. Among her extensive teaching experience throughout US includes her grant award-winning program BodyTalk™, Berkeley Rep School of Theatre, ACT (Young Mentors Award), Academy of Art University, UCLA, Foothill/DeAnza College, and Marin Theatre. She writes and directs large cast plays about empowering women and corporate theatre shows. Mentors include Jacques LeCoq, Ctibor Turba, Claude Kipnis. University of Illinois BFA, Master’s Equivalency Foothill College. SAG/AFTRA, AEA. Performs comedy/vaudeville with partner, Lol Levy.
