Beginning / Intermediate Acting

Students who are just beginning will thrive in this dynamic and engaging acting class. Returning students will have the opportunity to practice and perfect concepts introduced in beginning level courses while diving deeper into physicality and vocality. Special emphasis is placed on encouraging students to make dramatically effective choices by playing provocative actions, discovering the event within the scene, and finding creative obstacles.

Instructor: Bobby August, Jr. is an actor and improviser with credits spanning TV, film, and theatre. He recently acted opposite Jessica Chastain in Dreams, guest-starred in the Hulu series Chance starring Hugh Laurie, and performed a feature role in Spike Lee’s NBA 2K16. A recipient of Theatre Bay Area’s TITAN Award, he has performed acclaimed stage roles from Romeo and Juliet to Rabbit Hole. Bobby is the owner and director of Made Up Theatre, an award-winning improv company, and a proud member of SAG-AFTRA and Actors’ Equity. He trained at UC Davis (MFA in acting), Second City, and the Annoyance Theatre.

Instructor: Pamela Rickard is an international theatre director, teacher, actress, and private acting coach. Over her 45-year career, she has directed more than 150 classical and contemporary plays, musicals, and original shows across France, England, and the US. Pamela received a conservatory degree from the Stella Adler Theatre Conservatory in NY, master's degree in theatre from SFSU, and BA in drama from UC Berkeley where she graduated Phi Beta Kappa, Summa Cum Laude. She holds a 2nd degree black belt in Aikido. She is delighted to return to Berkeley Repertory from NY where she has just performed Samuel Beckett’s Happy Days.
