Long Form Improv Performance – Genre: Film Noir

Starts Thu 1/22 · $365

This class will have a threefold approach: narrative improvisation, dialects and language, and movement. Students will learn storytelling techniques as well as advanced improvisation skills, so that students may form an ensemble and develop dynamic collaborative skills to form a cohesive improvised narrative.

Students will also learn Transatlantic for the various characters, with some French/German sprinkled in! The dialects will be approached in a multi-sensorial way, with a focus on the physical changes, the phonetic sound changes, and with immersion (listening to primary sources of the dialect).  We will also identify and work on the various storytelling tropes of film noir as well as hallmark movements and mannerisms of the genre.  The class will culminate in a full-length improvised play for an invited audience, based on the style of film noir.
