Summer Improv Intensive: An Exploration of Character, Ensemble, and Performance Style
Dive into a dynamic and process-driven exploration of improvisational theatre! This class is centered on bold character work, strong ensemble connection, and expressive performance.
As an ensemble of improvisors, students will:
- Develop characters with clear physicality, vocal choices, and point of view.
- Practice building scenes through active listening and strong support, allowing ideas to expand and evolve collaboratively.
- Create grounded, dynamic relationships with attention to emotional specificity and behavioral detail.
- Explore how environment and context shape character and scene work.
- Work across a range of styles and genres, from naturalistic to heightened performance.
- Receive targeted side coaching and individualized feedback to support continued growth.
This is a process-based class with an emphasis on craft, responsiveness, and ensemble work. Without a final showcase, students are encouraged to take risks, build consistency, and develop a sustainable approach to performance.
Prerequisites: Beginning Improv, Intermediate Improv, two cycles of Improv Performance Lab. Commensurate experience will also be considered.
